For most of our married life, we lived on Long Island, surrounded by water — even if I wasn’t much for swimming in it, or boating on top of it, or anything.
But for the past 15 years we’ve lived inland. Landlocked. The occasional lake, in the Berkshires, or the Connecticut River here in the Pioneer Valley. But basically, in the teeth of the challenge “Afloat,” I didn’t have much to offer. (If I had a little yellow rubber duckie I would have floated it in the tub, but I don’t.)
But floating can have other connotations, I guess. At any rate, I’m offering another possibility here, a bowl of nice juicy clementines — afloat in space! Reminds me of the chiaroscuro still lifes I used to paint:
(I had to take the photo in a hurry before all of the clementines vanished — I pop ’em like orange candy!)
Beautiful! Does inspire a painting!
Thank you, Mary.
Very well played, now munch on! 😉
The second bowlful now has two left in it.
Or is it the third bowlful????
😉
Such a creative way to do this challenge! The fruits look really good, no surprise they vanished quickly. Time to get more for the house, perhaps… 😉
Tomorrow we’ll see if there are any more — we’re approaching the end of the season (sad) but approaching asparagus season here (joy).
🙂
Judith, I do love these clementines. They remind me of the classic painters – and although A.C.Danto (whose “Art After the End of Art” I am currently reading with great interest) would call this kind of association an anachronism to be avoided, I feel (!) it’s a good thing when photographs can be linked to paintings.
So do I (feel it’s a good thing).
Coincidence Dept. I remember when I was reading Danto a while ago, I found him very lively, provocative, stimulating, and opinionated. OTOH, I disagreed with a lot of his opinions!
😉
This photo is very reminiscent of a still life – a hybrid of reality and fiction. Nice work!
Your description couldn’t please me more, Stef.
It’s great to see and “hear” from you.
