Weekly Photo Challenge: CONTRAST

What is a lighthouse doing on a lawn?

Lighthouse on a lawn

What is a witty urban red-lips sofa doing outside in the country?

Red Lips Sofa

Answer: At one time or another they both caught the eye of one of the great collectors of Americana, Electra Havemeyer Webb, founder and benefactress of the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, Vermont. It’s an eccentric and fascinating place that abundantly reflects her personality and activities. Whatever your interest, be it quilts or railroads or American art or gardens or carousels, you’re sure to find it at the Shelburne.

Quirky for sure! But interestingly, I think the red lip sofa kinda works in that yard…. (?)

Love them! It is wonderful what you can see when you aren’t looking!

Ha, wonderfully eclectic examples Judith! 🙂 Looks like a place I would love to spend time in.

You definitely would love it, could spend a day or a week wandering from building to building (she collected buildings too) just browsing through the eclectica. (I just made up that word, I think it’ll be useful.) Did I remember to mention the dolls?
And it’s right close to the shore of a lovely lake, Lake Champlain, which is immensely long and thin and makes me think of a fjord, kind of.

I love comments! Thanks for coming by and visiting ---
