Weekly Photo Challenge: GRAND

Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp,  Or what’s a heaven for?

These lines from Robert Browning are perhaps the encouragement behind Northampton’s grand aspirations. We live in a moderate sized town, in the middle of one of the smaller states in the union, but our aspirations are outsize. The town is currently engaging in Solarize Northampton; we’re green in thought and deed, and true-blue to an astonishing degree in politics. At our heart is an elite women’s college, and education takes second place to nothing. No wonder the Hub and I love living here!

But sometimes great and grand aspirations can make me smile. Here are a couple of for-instances:

A Castle on the Hill

Windsor Castle? Hardly. One of the Smith College buildings fortunately located high on a hill. Then there’s Castle Northampton, better known as the Town Hall. No comment needed, I think.

And considering the prominent place education takes in our town and the surrounding area, the entrance to our Forbes Library (about which I’ve often posted, so proud are we all of it) looks exactly as it should:

Northampton, it’s a GRAND place to live!

You’ve done GRAND proud. I am always tickled by your unique take on the challenges. No wonder I’m no photographer – I’d be ever so pedestrian.

It isn’t really the photography, it’s the buildings. They TICKLE me!
(Your nature photos are incredible, Pauline. I do the artifacts, you do the fons et origo of it all.)
      😉

My goodness! A grand town you live in. Those buildings are beautiful. Very nice sights. 🙂

“Solarize Northampton” sounds exciting! I’d love to learn more – perhaps in a future post?

    • Touch2Touch says:

A future post is not very likely, but there exists a website: http://www.masscec.com/programs/solarize-mass/town/northampton
Northampton and Amherst, both college towns in the Pioneer Valley here, are Emerald Green in orientation and philosophy. Minnesotans would feel right at home.
Some friends of ours just took down several trees in order to solarize their home. I wonder if that isn’t losing on the swings what you gain on the roundabouts, as the expression goes. But they are very happy having done so.

I love comments! Thanks for coming by and visiting ---
