Weekly Photo Challenge: FORWARD (3, and a Bonus!)

It’s one thing to announce boldly, I’m moving forward! But it’s another thing to pause and reflect: What am I moving forward TO? Do I really want to go there?

Acme Surplus, or Something else?Which has so far prevented me from ever detouring down this tucked-away-nook staircase at Northampton’s unique  Thornes Marketplace. Acme Surplus seems to promise cheap overstock bonus merchandise, a regular grab bag of goodies, doesn’t it?  But the lurid colors and lighting, combined with the need to descend into unknown basement depths stops me every time.

Overreacting? Take a jump over to sister blog Touch2Touch and find out in today’s post (this is the bonus) what kind of a place I imagine it might actually be, and who one might encounter down those stairs. Oh, and have fun, you bold soul!

  1. That’s a good choice of descriptive adjective – lurid! Sleaze comes to mind. Now you really have got us curious to what is going on down there in the basement, especially with your link to Orpheus. By the way that’s a great clip!

It was Acme’s lurid colors (red, yellow, deep blue) that made me think of the clip, because Hell is framed in the same colors in it!!
Many thanks for your visit —-

  2. You have never been?!?!? We must add this to our list when I come visit!

It reminds me Nancy Griffith’s introduction to LOVE AT THE FIVE AND DIME, a great place to fill up your suitcase with unnecessary plastic objects. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GK462XnRjQ.)

Take the dive! Consider it an adventure. Maybe you find something wonderful; and if not, at least you have (another) story to tell. 🙂

Jen (from CT and Random Acts of Writing) has threatened/promised to go down those stairs with me next time she’s in N’hampton!
(Did you go on over to Touch2Touch via the link in the post and check out the Chinese Zodiac? The current adventure is finding our signs —)
