Weekly Photo Challenge: THANKFUL

This week’s challenge, Thankful, I’m assuming asks us to go beyond the family warmth and foolery and feasting of actual Thanksgiving Day. There are things to be thankful for each and every day. And one of them is washing machines. Because without them, I’d be forced to scrub these duds by hand in a stream or something — and never have time to maintain my own blog, or to look at yours!

    I couldn’t live without mine – or the dryer…

I remember my mother washing our clothes by hand then putting them through the wringer before hanging them out to dry – it took hours! So yes, I am thankful for my washing machine too!

Once upon that time, the days of the weeks had names in a kind of jingle, and Monday was Washday!
And it took a whole day, too. Now that people have more clothes than they once did it would take a couple of days, I’m sure.

    and dishwashers,
    and vacuum cleaners,
    and air conditioners,
    and home heating systems
    and electric lights………………….
I often wonder what it was like to live until about 1950!!

I’m SO thankful for all of the modern conveniences of our 2012 lives! Washers, dryers, dishwashers, showers, hair dryers, heating pads…. and cars, computers, cell phones…. and everything else in our homes and outside that make our lives easier. I can’t imagine living a 1900s (or Amish) lifestyle.

  5. How true! I wouldn’t be able to live without my washing machine either. And with the rainy weather over here – I’m equally thankful for the dryer and the warm toasty clothes it gives me!

  6. Clever! On that theme, consider ALL of the modern tools that make our lives easier, right?

    • Touch2Touch says:

      Absolutely. Even shampoo —
Did you ever see the documentary The 1900’s House? It will make you rejoice to live in the 21st century —

      • Is that the one where the women sneak contraband shampoo into the house? I loved those series – there were three of four of them, weren’t there? I remember the 1900s House and then there was a frontier one…can’t remember the others.

      • Touch2Touch says:

Yes! With the contraband shampoo. What a memory you have!
I didn’t know there were others, I’ll have to look. Thanks for a treat for the New Year, Jen —
