Not a technique I use often, at least not consciously. But silhouettes are inherently dramatic, and I realize they also arise naturally twice a day, at sunrise and sunset, as witness, as the sun comes up:

What a great contrast of colours and mood! Fab!
Thanks so much, Julia.
A twice a day phenomenon – and still fascinating, isn’t it? Both pictures capture the moment very well, and beautifully, I’d say.
Thanks, Tobias.
(I have a lot of sunset photos, but very few of sunrises. I wonder why. Hmmm.)
sunrise, sunset, can be magical times for photography and for just standing still soaking in the dawning or dying of the light.
The daily round, the daily magic, yes, Joss.
The contrast between sunrise and sunset is amazing – great photos for the challenge!
True about the contrast — I can’t help it, I’ve got a bias toward the close of day —
I love it when nature paints in ink and water color. Nicely captured!
Pauline, you are such an incredible poet! What a gorgeous line, nature paints in ink and water color.
These are both lovely shots! Apparently, it’s not a technique I use very often either, because I had only one photo with a silhouette, and that I used last week 🙂
Curious about these things, isn’t it? Why one does or doesn’t concentrate on certain themes?
(Although we certainly know one of your constants is Ducks! And wonderful ducks they are, too. What we have in abundance here are squirrels, and frankly, they leave my artistic sensibilities cold.)
I like to shoot a squirrel every now and then 😉
Right.
But with what?
😉
Only the camera … 😀 no fire power here..
Other than silhouettes, I think you could put these pictures under a label of “peaceful”, too. I know that was my immediate reaction when I saw these beautiful photos. Mother Nature certainly gives us a beautiful background with which to work, doesn’t she?
I agree 100%, Tara. Thanks so much for stopping by —
🙂
Beautiful colors in both these settings. I love the blue.
Such different blues!
Thanks so much for coming by, Angelia.
Both are lovely. I’m a fan of sunrise more than sunset, myself.
You can get up to watch the sun arise, and you can do yoga —
you’ve got the jump both times on me!
I can sit and meditate and watch the sun go down, and that’s about it.
Both yin and yang are needed for a balanced planet. There’s room for us both, Judith. 🙂
So between us we make a nice rounded day!
🙂
Beautiful!
Thanks, Jen. You are a real sunrise maven, I think.
