Weekly Photo Challenge: BIG

For this challenge entry, here are some chilling reminders (ouch, what a terrible pun!) of what lurks just beyond the scarlet and orange and gold leaves now brightening our landscape.ย Last year’s winter was (mostly) rather mild, but normally New England winter includes such BIG, BIGGER, and BIGGEST snowfalls as these:

There was a staircase here, I swear it!

A foot of snow!

And then, of course, there’s this reminder of what even mild winter can bring. Here is last year’s Hallowe’en blizzard, the only major snowfall of the season, deceptively lovely in its beginning— but it proved to be a doozy of incredible destructiveness:

I think it’s none too early for a few choruses of Winter, Stay ‘way From My Door!

  1. sigh, must winter follow autumn? couldn’t we just skip it this year and go straight to spring?

I’ve only seen snow like that twice in my life. We never get snow. Here is hoping you have another mild winter and Texas gets a BIG snow again. ๐Ÿ™‚

One BIG snow is surely enough, so I’ll wish it for you. I guess.
In fact, the Hallowe’en blizzard last year was MORE than enough! Came so early, all the leaves still on the trees, down they all went! Power outages for days, for weeks for some folks — a Hallowe’en (and onward) nightmare.
Your sunshine sounds like a good deal to us!

Wow, that’s a LOT of snow, and it looks so beautiful when it first falls. I do miss it.

You’ve made me shiver but they a great photos!

  6. Love these pics! They remind me of Holland two years ago… The world almost seems small with this amount of snow.

    • Touch2Touch says:

Holland? So much snow? I wouldn’t have thought it!
Interesting observation about the amount of snow and relativity. Will remember and think about this, Elvira, come the first snowfall!

Shivering just looking at those reminders of what’s ahead of us. I like the way you interpret the challenge words – I’d have posted a photo of a refrigerator box or something equally unimaginative.

I hope this winter is as mild, though AccuWeather is predicting lots of snow for the Northeast. I have to drive the MA Pike twice a week. I hate driving in bad weather. I may be moving into Cassie’s till April!

    • Touch2Touch says:

We can hope they’re wrong. They often are.
But temporary moves in and out of Cassie’s might end up being advisable. You’ve got a bed here for the night as needed too!

  8. Claudia Shuster says:

    Love your photos!!

    How are you both???

    Love, Claudia

    • Touch2Touch says:

The top two are from White Pines. (You recognize the deck?)
The bottom is from here at Northampton, almost exactly a year ago. Praying that history doesn’t repeat itself!
After much travail, we are at last on the mend!!! Will call —

  9. Wow that’s a lot of snow! It’s beautiful how everything is blanketed in a winter wonderland. Hope you get a milder winter this year.
