For this challenge entry, here are some chilling reminders (ouch, what a terrible pun!) of what lurks just beyond the scarlet and orange and gold leaves now brightening our landscape. Last year’s winter was (mostly) rather mild, but normally New England winter includes such BIG, BIGGER, and BIGGEST snowfalls as these:

And then, of course, there’s this reminder of what even mild winter can bring. Here is last year’s Hallowe’en blizzard, the only major snowfall of the season, deceptively lovely in its beginning— but it proved to be a doozy of incredible destructiveness:
