Weekly Photo Challenge: JOURNEY (2)

A journey, yes —  going around in circles!

This charming mini-railroad runs (in clement weather) around a portion of Northampton’s Look Park. (I hear you now: is there no end to the wonders of this park? And the answer is No.) The wonderful little railroad departs from the Kiddieville station at frequent intervals, circles the zoo, goes around the woods and through a tiny tunnel whistle hooting, then emerges on a broad meadow, heading for home.

For adults the journey is a little problematic: I am small, and even so, I sit with my knees pressed against my chin. But it isn’t a long trip, and grandchildren are utterly enchanted. The tunnel, the whistle, the merry little train — Bon Voyage!

What it is about going around in a circle that delights children I can’t say, but I remember loving such rides as a child. I also loved spinning. There are all manner of journeys in life – riding a train in a loop may take your imagination to unexpected places!

We have a village here in Jersey called Smithville. It has a similar train, much smaller scale in travel, I’m thinking, but it passes by the shops and restaurants. The favorite attraction is the duck pond and the giant swans that children as well as adults float around in on warmer days. The kids look so happy sitting in that train to nowhere and everywhere. And as far as ‘fitting’ goes, anything for the grandchildren. Squish! 🙂

Round and round and round she goes, and where she stops — everybody knows, right where we got on!
Children are reassured to come round to the starting point again. Maybe we all are.

I KNEW it was Look Park before I even…looked! One of these days soon, we will walk around Look Park together!

P.S. Are those YOUR photos in the header that keep changing? Lovely!

Let us keep good thoughts about a stroll around the park together!
And those are NOT my photos, they come with the theme, so that I can stay roughly seasonal.

Sometimes a little physical discomfort for the sake of a child is no real discomfort at all.
