Weekly Photo Challenge: UNUSUAL, 1

So many unusual and wonderful things, where do we start first?

How about in the vegetable kingdom, with one of the most unusual (and sumptuous) vegetables I’ve ever seen, the Broccolo Romanesco:

I’ve written about this extraordinary creature before in a post about My Vegetable Love, (which even gives you a recipe). It looks to me like the offspring of Kermit the Frog and a cauliflower! Amiable and delicious — But very hard to find.

wow pretty unusual and strange well caught. πŸ˜‰

  8. They have this at one of my local vegetable shops. Never tried it, but perhaps I should.

    • Touch2Touch says:

Lucky you, my local vegetable shops never heard of it. This one came from a farmer’s market two summers ago. Last summer the already-small crop totally failed, no romanesco!
If you at all like either broccoli or cauliflower — it’s actually more delicious than either, IMHO.

    How wonderful – a vegetable fractal !

  10. This is interesting. I’ve never seen this before. At first glance, it doesn’t look like something that could be eaten! πŸ™‚

    • Touch2Touch says:

Actually that was my first reaction: this is really beautiful, but to eat??????????
And it seems a shame to take apart the fractal structure. But when you do, it’s really good —

our local farmer’s market sells these and they are delicious

never seen anything like that before. great picture.

  13. OK, this looks like one of those unusual delicacies they eat on something like Star Trek! What fun!

    • Touch2Touch says:

It makes me think of the Taj Mahal — when I posted the romanesco a while back on one of the blogs, I juxtaposed it with a photo of that palace. One is green and one is white, but still —-

I think you description of “offspring of Kermit the Frog and a cauliflower” is incredibly apt! Cute and fun.
