Thanksgiving in the USA began in New England; and New England still sets the theme for Turkey Day’s landscape and music, as in Over the River and Through the Woods, to Grandmother’s House We Go:
We’re not expecting snow this year (thank goodness!) — but we are expecting to feast in company. Here are some straw people spotted in Lenox going about their pre-Thanksgiving business, getting ready for visitors, as calm — and charming —as can be (a click will enlarge them for you):
These guys are clearing the path:
A cousin’s taking care of baby till the guests arrive:
Grandma’s knitting? Then who’s preparing the turkey?
Grandpa’s taking the dog for a walk, or maybe — the dog is taking Grandpa for a walk!
Wherever you are, whoever you’re spending it with —
Have a delicious Thanksgiving, everyone!
in the world of automobiles and motorbikes a soothing step back …
Isn’t it, though?
Thanks so much for stopping by, frizztext!
These straw people are hilarious! (And a little bit freaky…)
Yes, on both counts. But imagine how freaky they are face-to-face!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you have a wonderful day with all the trimmings.
It’s just a normal grey day here, where the radio forecaster this morning proclaimed that if it isn’t raining in your area now; it will later. The days are so short that darkness descends about 4PM.
So, on this ordinary day in Clane I wish you and Frank and all your family a splendid holiday feast.
Love, Berna
Just for today — the weather in the Pioneer Valley beats the weather in Clane! It’s cold but clear. We’re off to the Carrys for the feast.
In case you’ve forgotten, the days here are also short and darkness descends, guess when? about 4 PM!!!! Hate it, as driving at night is exceedingly problematic. We’ll sleep chez Carry to avoid the problem.
Know that one of the things we’re thankful for is you, and our friendship, which I trust will provide some kind of Thanksgiving Day all the way to Eire! In any place, in any language, giving thanks is always A Good Thing! Gra, Berna —
I’m with Stef on this one. A straw baby? THAT’S too freaky!
Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!
What made it freakier — of all the figures, the straw baby had the most “human” features, the others were essentially faceless.
And thank you, yes, Thanksgiving was wonderful.
The day, as it turned out, was perfect. Hope your feasting among friends was equally satisfactory. Love the straw people – where are they?
We had a splendid time in company in the BERKSHIRES—-
Where the straw people are, or were — in the Aspinwell Shopping Center, or whatever they’re calling it now, where Chocolate Springs is.
