Why last chance? Two reasons. For one, the weekly photo challenge switches tomorrow to another theme. More important perhaps, the fall is rapidly failing. This photo was taken only three days ago. I marveled at it then. Look at the colors! Like a showgirl in Stephen Sondheim’s Follies, it’s still here!
But since then, a New England winter has been gathering its forces. The temperature’s plunged almost to freezing, cold to icy rain has fallen, and snow is actually in the forecast for tomorrow night. By tomorrow morning the purple flower will be only a memory.
But it will live on here — that, too, is why we photograph.
