Collectives: A Sleuth of Bears

Bears in the backyard! There are two more cubs behind Mamma in the shrubbery. Honest!

(Why sleuth? Maybe it’s because sleuth is a word that means tracks, or tracking, which bears certainly leave.)

(Update: When we moved from the Berkshires to the more heavily populated Pioneer Valley, we thought we were leaving the bears — fascinating and frightening — behind. But lo! our new little development is even more populated with the creatures, and they come around much more often. Plus ça change, and all that — I guess karma is karma, and we’re just stuck with the bears! An ironic fate for a city girl from Brooklyn, New York.)

Yikes – that is one big bear! I will keep and ear and eye out for it in case it waddles through Cassie’s yard this weekend. I know one has been through there several times. You guys must be in the same bearhood.

Fear not, Pauline. I’m in the reprinting of posts (because of visiting dignitaries!) and so that huge black bear is a Berkshire bear of yesteryear!!!!!!!
The ones we have here have been three black cubs and a mamma who is a lot smaller than this one, and cinnamon colored. No photo ops so far. I think we all are in the same bearhood, though.

I love comments! Thanks for coming by and visiting ---
