Weekly Photo Challenge: ENTRANCE to My World —

When I came upon this quote in one of my favorite blogs, Mindful Balance, something went click for me:

No one else has access to the world you carry around within yourself; you are its custodian and entrance. No one else can see the world the way you see it. No one else can feel your life the way you feel it. Thus it is impossible to ever compare two people because each stands on such different ground. When you compare yourself to others, you are inviting envy into your consciousness; it can be a dangerous and destructive guest.

John O Donoghue,Β Anam Chara

The click was the realization: I am the entrance to my own world. Only if I invite you in can I have the pleasure of your company. Only if I invite you in can you begin to see what I am really like.

How often do we keep guard over our entrance — all the while longing to know and be known, to touch and be touched. Here we are at the entrance, here is my world — and welcome to it!

  1. indeed. “by invitation only”.

  2. barb19 says:

I like this! We are the entrance to our own world, and no-one can come in unless we let them.

I believe this — and I like it also.
But I find (to my own surprise) it raises a lot of questions for me (even if I chose to quote it in the first place).
Pauline in her comment adds complexity to the conversation —

  3. Pauline says:

I had no idea your world was so complicated (though the multi-reflective entrance is amazingly portrayed). We can let people in yes, but still they don’t see us as we see us, and we might not even see us as we are, but as we think we are or wished we were. I like the ambiguity of it all, the formlessness constantly changing form. You make me think outside myself and it’s great fun!

  4. This is a fascinating photograph, like, “The World as Yoli Sees it,” giving a glimpse, a little peek into how you see it. A fine theme for a series of photos.

  5. One of my favorite kinds of photos – those chance (or not by chance) reflections of where we are and what we see.
